Lynch was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He is Hispanic.[1]
Lynch is married to Jennifer. Together they have two children, Isabella and Edward Jr. They currently reside in West Palm Beach, Florida.[1]
Lynch was the president of Deleon Industries. In 2000, he sold the company and moved to Florida with his family. It was alleged in the 2008 election by Eric Johnson, a spokesman for Robert Wexler, that Lynch had unpaid federal tax liens for almost US$1.4 million for payroll taxes owed by that company, of which he was sole proprietor.[2] Lynch explained this as "The issue concerns a dispute with the evaluation of a business I sold some years ago. I believe anytime a taxpayer is told they owe more money than they earned in a particular year they have the right to dispute the findings."[3]
In 2010, The Palm Beach Post published a story outlining $1.3 million in federal tax liens against Lynch and whose contracting business has $143,618 in court judgments since 2008. Lynch said he was being punished by the federal government for "fighting for the rights of our veterans".[4]
